Without a doubt it's watching light paint the landscape. You've done the donkey work, found the location, got up at the crack of dawn, returned time and again until the conditions are just right, stood, and waited. And then finally it all comes together: a gap in the cloud releases shaft of light spotlighting the texture of the land, displaying a scene that even in our crowded world few take the time to see, and you release the shutter. As the light splashes across the landscape it transforms the scene just as you foresaw. You trudge back down the hill with that buzz that only photographers know it: it looked fantastic, exhilarating, just being there was treat that refreshed the soul. It doesn't get any better, does it?
